KANE TOO GOOD AT ARCHERFIELD
The Final Round of the All Parts Barn Thunder Series was held at SuperCheap Auto Archerfield Speedway (QLD) Saturday April 20 and it was another ‘dominating’ performance by Darren Kane in the Ian Boettcher Race Parts Dominator Late Model. Kane lead all 20 laps of the A Main, after winning his two Heats. Matt Ingrey was the other Heat winner, and he claimed the runner-up position in the A Main, while Aaron van Zeeland was third, the only other competitor not to be lapped by Kane. Steve van Zeeland enjoyed a solid meeting with two second placing’s in his Heats, and a 4th place finish in the A Main. Nick Girdlestone rounded out the top 5 in the A Main.
AARON VAN ZEELAND WINS AT GYMPIE
LMRQ members competed at Mothar Mountain Speedway Gympie (QLD) Saturday March 23 in Round 6 of the All Parts Barn Thunder Series and it was Aaron van Zeeland who dominated, winning a Heat and leading the A Main from the green light to the chequered flag. A small six car field contested the A Main, but van Zeeland was under pressure for the entire 15 lap distance, with Kev Stow almost glued to his rear barwork. Stow, who won the other Heat held on the night, encountered a car issue as he exited the final turn in the A Main, dropping him to the tail of the field, as Matt Ingrey and Jake Hawkins swept past to claim the minor podium positions. Round 5 of the Series scheduled for Kingaroy Speedway on March 9 was cancelled due to inclement weather.

DOMINATING WIN TO GARTNER AT CHARLTON
A strong 16 car field fronted at Charlton Raceway Toowoomba (QLD) Saturday February 9 for Round 4 of the All Parts Barn Thunder Series, but in the final wash up it was the ‘dominating’ performance by one car and driver that had everyone talking. South Australian Sedan racer Dave Gartner came north to substitute for the injured Darren Kane in the Dominator #36. Gartner, making his first ever Late Model start, took to driving the car like a duck to water, finishing 3rd in his first Heat after starting 7th. The night then got better and better for Gartner with an all the way win in his second Heat, and a similar performance in the 24 lap A Main, where he finished three seconds clear of the opposition. The victory also marked the first Late Model A Main win for the Dominator chassis. A torrid battle ensued for the minor placings in the A Main, with Blair Granger, who had looked strong all night, holding second for most of the journey, only to be pipped on the final lap by Michael Jenner, who worked the high line to perfection. Matt Ingrey finished a close 4th, but was well in the mix also after starting 11th. Joining Granger (2) and Gartner as Heat winners was Aaron van Zeeland. Late Model action will return to Charlton on March 2 with the State Title on the line. Watch all the action from the A Main below and to watch all four Heats and the A Main click here. Five of the 12 starters failed to see out the 10 lap distance with Brent Emerson (#NZ5), Kristy Bonsey (#24), and Modified Sedan racer Gavin Fletcher, having a steer of the Dean Hawkins #43, amongst those parked on the infield. Bonsey, in her first Late Model race meeting, showed plenty of maturity, and will be a driver to watch out for in the future. Heat wins went to Aaron van Zeeland (#9), Matt Ingrey (#54), and Jake Hawkins #12). Click here for the full results.
JAKE HAWKINS SOLID IN GRAND NATIONAL
Jake Hawkins was the sole Queensland racer to contest the Late Model Grand National at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway (NSW) Saturday April 14 and was impressive throughout the meeting. With a 4th and 7th in the Heats, against some of the best racers in the country, the young racer brought the Q12 car home to a solid 6th place finish in the 30 lap A Main that was won by Western Australia sensation Jamie Oldfield.

QUEENSLAND RACERS OUT OF LUCK IN MILDURA
The father and son team of Kev Stow and Matt Ingrey travelled to Mildura over Easter to contest the Cross Roads Holiday Park Mildura Easter $10,000. It was a tough weekend for Matt, being off the pace. He qualified for the 50 lap A Main but retired just before mid distance, to be joined a lap later by his father. Kev ran well in the Heats though, securing two third placings and a second. He then accounted for his first three rivals in the Pole Shuffle, which earned him a position 7 start in the A Main. Kev ran well early, but joined his son on the infield mid race. The $10,000 race was won by Western Australia's Craig Vosbergen.

QUEENSLAND RACERS FIND THE GOING TOUGH IN AUSTRALIAN TITLE
The Queensland contingent of racers (7) that contested the Frank's Auto Parts Australian Late Model Championship at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway (NSW) January 27/28 found the going tough in the face of stiff opposition. Dean Hawkins in the Q43 machine was the most impressive of the LMRQ racers Time Trialling 9th (of 36 cars) and finishing in a placing in each of the Heats he contested (3rd, 3rd, 2nd). Hawkins also finished 2nd in a Friday Mini Feature and was 4th in points after Night 1. Hawkins form continued into the Saturday portion of the program where he made the top eight and finished 7th in Dash 1, earning a start from that position in the A Main. When the green flag was unfurled he dropped back to run 10th before an untimely spin at mid distance relegated him to the rear. He retired not much further into the race, leaving the top Queensland finisher as Nick Girdlestone (driving a Bruce Mackenzie car) in 17th with Aaron van Zeeland 18th. Matt Ingrey was the only other LMRQ racer to make the A Main and retired at two thirds distance.

QUEENSLAND RACERS MISS OUT IN NSW LATE MODEL TITLE
The NSW Late Model Championship was held at Lucas Oil Lismore Speedway (NSW) Saturday January 14 with seven LMRQ race teams heading over the border in search of glory. It was a tough night for the Queensland contingent in the face of quality opposition such as USA racers Steve Francis and Devin Moran, Australian Champion Brad Blake, and top NSW racers like Nathan Disney and Darryl Grimson. The record books will show that Moran won the title from Blake and Grimson, but the LMRQ racers performed well, with (Q5) Blair Granger 4th, (Q17) Kev Stow 5th, (Q54) Matt Ingrey 6th, (Q24) Russell Bonsey 7th, and (Q77) Steve van Zeeland 9th in the 30 lap A Main. Blair's most recent Round win was at Kingaroy Speedway (QLD) Saturday November 26 where he lead all the way in the 15 lap Feature. With Blair contributing all of his winnings to the 'Cranky Red Head Appeal' (benefitting good friend Matt Stocker who is fighting cancer) the fund got a sizeable boost! Chris Bates (Q21) enjoyed his best night in a long time to finish 2nd in the Feature, while Kev Stow (Q17) got past Russell Bonsey (Q24) at mid distance to snatch 3rd. GRANGER TAKES TWO IN A ROW
LMRQ competitors journeyed to Charlton Raceway Towoomba (QLD) Saturday November 19 for Round 2 of the Dryden Signs Late Model Thunder Series. Aaron van Zeeland (#9) had a memorable evening, with a 4th and 1st in the Heats, and a great all-the-way 2nd in the Feature, finishing just 1.5 seconds behind Blair. Matt Ingrey (#54) completed the podium, after a 5th and 2nd in the Heats. Matt's drive in Heat 2 was inspirational, as he charged up from position 6 to run 2nd on lap 9. The race commemorated the daughter of LMRQ Founding Member Nick Girdlestone. Zoe passed away in 2009 as a result of cystic fibrosis. Girdlestone (#7) was one of the starters in this year’s race that doubled as a fund raiser for the ‘Make-A-Wish’ Foundation. A field of 14 cars was on hand to do battle, with Heat 1 going to ACT racer Scott McPherson (#N7) after an all-the-way victory. Heat 2 saw Russell Bonsey (#24) work his way forward to greet the chequered flag first, having passed Stephen Carlish (#37) on the last lap. David Robertson (#X4) started mid pack in Heat 3, but sliced through to lead at mid distance, going on to secure the win. Kev Stow (#17) won the final Heat by leading all 8 laps. The 25 lap Feature had Blair Granger off the front row and he made every post a winner by leading strongly. LMRQ Club Champion Dean Hawkins (#43) had desires on the inaugural ‘Zoe Girdlestone Memorial’ Trophy though, and made a successful challenge for the lead with six laps remaining. Hawkins claimed the victory, with Granger second, and Scott McPherson finishing 3rd after fending off a late race challenge from David Robertson who would eventually finish 4th. Matt Ingrey (#54) powered through the field early to move up to 5th, a position he would maintain until the flag fell.
